HOW TO USE PSYCHOLOGY TO STOP SABOTAGING YOUR WELLNESS JOURNEY

It's not just you! We all have our self-sabotage moments! If you’re struggling with the oh-so-common gain and lose cycle of dieting or your wellness journey always seems to start Monday, then listen up.

There is a chance that you may be undermining your own success, and the solution is way easier than you think.

WHAT IS SELF-SABOTAGE?

When your own actions create problems in your daily life, or interfere with your most important goals, we call this self-sabotage.

Self-Sabotage usually starts subconsciously with a very small thought that ends up keeping you stuck. That small thought then leads to bigger emotions, and those feelings eventually motivate your actions and impact your results.

Let’s talk about how you can cultivate more positive thoughts, habits and feelings to end the vicious cycle of self-sabotage and make your wellness journey a more joyful experience.

5 WAYS YOU MIGHT BE SELF-SABOTAGING YOUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS

There are five common ways that I see women self-sabotaging their fitness and nutrition journeys.

  • 1. You have unrealistic expectations for your body and are setting goals that are difficult to maintain.
  • 2. You are letting the scale dictate success.
  • 3. You are restricting yourself when you don't feel lean enough.
  • 4. You are not being patient or consistent enough to see results.
  • 5. You are basing self-worth on what you look like instead of who you are.

A SIMPLE SOLUTION FOR SELF-SABOTAGE

First, we have to identify the problem. Why do you think certain thought patterns? Why are some thoughts hurting your progress?

I want you to know that you’re not alone. We all have a negativity bias. It’s part of what the human brain does to try to keep us safe and make us aware of danger. This is why it is so important for you to self soothe often and to remind your nervous systems that you are safe, and that it is ok to stretch and grow outside of your comfort zone.

When you start creating new positive habits and experiences, it helps you stay motivated. It is easier to continue to steadily reach for your biggest dreams and excitedly chase after your goals for the long haul. This is such a powerful shift!

THE POWER OF YOUR THOUGHTS

If you choose to focus on the negatives in your fitness journey, that’s all you will see. If you say to yourself “I haven’t lost any weight and my goal was 15lbs”, all you are seeing is failure.

However, if you intentionally fill your mind with positive and uplifting things, it helps you stay motivated and eventually get better results.

Choose to notice and celebrate:

  • The inches you lost
  • The muscle you have gained
  • Enjoying your relationship with food more
  • Feeling more empowered and confident
  • The fact that you did what you said you would do

If you stop to notice and appreciate these things, then you will enjoy your success more and you will keep showing up for yourself.

Your thoughts are powerful! Your thoughts create your actions, so choose wisely!

5 WAYS TO SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS ON YOUR WELLNESS JOURNEY

Remember, you will never shame yourself into feeling better. Your health and wellness journey is really about the way that you feel mentally, physically, and emotionally. Set yourself up for success by creating a sustainable and
positive experience.

1. If you want lasting change, you must make sustainable goals.
2. Be accountable to yourself and your health, not the number on the scale
3. Trust yourself and your body with the process. Lasting changes for the long haul aren't made overnight.
4. Give yourself time and grace to achieve your goals!
5. How you look is the least interesting thing about you! Focus on everything that makes you YOU because you are worth the time and effort to feel your best.
